In case you didn’t know, I play lacrosse (joking!). Anyways, I don’t so much play anymore as I do coach. However, there is one weekend every year when I get to dust off my cleats, shake the rust off the old goalie stick, and remember what it was like to compete. That weekend is the annual Woozle weekend. The thought of these three days will be one of the driving forces behind keeping me sane over the next six weeks.
The Woozles are a men’s club lacrosse team that I helped form five years ago. Originally it consisted of a few BK alumni and our friends from Utah. It has now expanded to players from Idaho, Utah, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Colorado, and Ohio. Essentially it’s a network of high school and college buddies that all share a love of lacrosse and having a good time (often too good of a time).
We have won the Brawl in McCall lacrosse tournament four years in a row now (04, 05, 06, 07). While winning so often has been fun, it was decided that we should challenge ourselves this year. That is why we’re going to the Lake Tahoe lacrosse tournament at the end of July. Some of the best men’s club teams in the west come to this tournament, and it will be fun to test ourselves against some more prestigious squads. The picture to the left is of me making a save against my former high school coach, who now plays for a club based out of Palo Alto. The center picture is our mascot, Winston the Woozle, with the Brawl in McCall trophy. The third picture is of our sidelines last year. As you can see we’ve reversed our uniforms recently, so that the pink is on top. You have to be confident in order to embrace the pink!

Will you still play in McCall? If so, when…maybe I’ll come watch. I’ve never been to a lacrosse game.
We don’t know if we’re going to play in McCall again. We’re putting a lot of man hours in to organizing this Tahoe thing, and trying to get everyone back in to one spot just a couple of weeks later might be kinda tough. It was easier before everyone grew up and got jobs…ha.
