An Odd Group

Posted by blakeob on June 3, 2009

Had 14 guys graduate from the lacrosse program this year. Made commencement much more interesting when your players literally take up 10% of the graduating class. It got me thinking about my graduation weekend and what a great time it was. The day after we walked, six of my buddies hopped in a van and went on a week long road trip to Tahoe, Santa Cruz, and Newport, OR. Here’s a pic from when we were in California.

The funny thing is that while I remember setting up for this pic, I have no recollection of who took it. “Excuse me, will you hold this camera and wait until we clumsily form an awkward cheer leading inspired triangle?” Man, were pretty lame.

Program’s First All-American

Posted by blakeob on June 3, 2009

BK Lacrosse has been around for 11 years, but last Saturday was the first time any of our players have received All-American honors. Joe Eck was announced as a 2009 US Lacrosse All-America at halftime of the TVLL All-Star game.

We’ve had some great guys play attack at BK, and if Idaho had All-American status in 2002-2003 I would argue that Cody Hart (‘03) would have received the award both years. That said, Joe more than deserved the award this season, and he will go down as the first All-American in Bishop Kelly lacrosse history. He carried the team on offense, putting away 59 goals this season to cap his career as a three year varsity starter. He will play his college ball at Washington and Jefferson in Washington, PA next season, and I’m looking forward to keeping tabs on how things go for him. Nice job Joe!

On a related note, first year offensive coordinator Jon Mundy also secured a TVLL award as the conference’s top assistant coach. He’s been a blast to work with and I think he’s going to lead our O to big things in the future.

Typical Day At Home

My wife’s impression of SNL’s “Gilly” is pretty funny…especially after a long week. I found it particularly comical this night (as told through my not so macho laughing).
